THEM CROOKED VULTURES COMES TO THE JOINT
Aka Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme and John Paul Jones–will be bringing their tour to The Joint on Saturday, April 17. Tickets go on sale Saturday, February 13 at noon.
The band is touring in support of their debut album that was released in November 2009 on DGC/Interscope Records. The self-produced 13-song record features the debut of the studio versions of the material Them Crooked Vultures unveiled at its August 9 debut at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro and played on a first series of shows throughout a handful of UK and European cities and portions of the eastern U.S., wrapping up with an October 15 appearance at New York’s Roseland Ballroom.
Many people have asked how the band was formed. Dave first came up with the idea of him, Joshua and John playing together. Joshua thought it was a great idea but wasn’t really aware how serious Dave was until Dave essentially set him and John up on a blind date, inviting both of them to his 40th birthday party in January 2009 at Medieval Times in Buena Park, CA. He had the two seated together and was able to observe their chemistry from his perch while being knighted and cheering on the Blue Knight.
When asked to describe the band’s sound, their response was “It sounds like the guy from Queens of the Stone Age singing and playing guitar with the bass player from Led Zeppelin and the drummer from Nirvana.” Fans are encouraged to come up with their own descriptions when they check out this blend of great musicians at The Joint on April 17.

The party continued at with a late night dinner at TAO Asian Bistro, enjoying Sea Bass and a Steak special while chatting about his upcoming UFC reality show that is taping now. After dinner they returned to LAVO where Ortiz was feted in the nightclub. Taking over a VIP table the group drank Mandarin and Seven-Up cocktails, except Jenna who didn’t drink at all.
Lettuce to debut Mexican concept in Las Vegas
One of the oddities about the Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises restaurant empire is that, for all the various concepts the company operates, there isn’t a single Mexican restaurant, at least not since Hat Dance was closed many years ago to make room for Nacional 27 (given N27’s longevity, not a bad move).
Well, all that will change sometime in the middle of March, when Lettuce unveils an as-yet-to-be-named Mexican concept.
It will be an informal cantina and taqueria with a mesquite-fired wood grill, and a fairly traditional menu that will feature organic chicken and gulf shrimp. The beverage program will include housemade sangria and “out of this world” margaritas. And for folks in a hurry, a walk-up taco stand up front will let customers grab and go, street-food style.
There is a catch. The restaurant is opening in Las Vegas, on the site of Lettuce’s Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba outpost on the Vegas strip. That restaurant will close on February 15 to make room for the new concept.
