THE JOINT NOMINATED BY POLLSTAR MAGAZINE FOR “BEST NEW MAJOR CONCERT VENUE”
THE JOINT, BY ROGUE
At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino set the standard for new venues when it opened with five sold out shows in April 2009. The sold-out shows over two weekends–The Killers April 17, Avenged Sevenfold April 18, Paul McCartney April 19, Bon Jovi April 24, Kenny Chesney April 25–provided a wide range for music fans.
Recently, The Joint was nominated for the prestigious Best New Major Concert Venue award after having been operating for only eight months. The venue’s incredible sound system, great sight lines, and artist-friendly back of house paved the way for new industry standards. The Joint is among only five venues nationwide nominated for the award.
“We couldn’t possibly be happier with the responses we have received from the industry side. We have consistently been one of the top three grossing venues in the country and we had a monstrous year,” said Paul Davis, Vice President of Entertainment of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “We spent a tremendous amount of time and effort on the back-of-house design to make sure the bands and touring personnel were accommodated and it has really paid off.”
The Pollstar Awards will be held February 17, 2010 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles. AEG Live is the exclusive booking agent for the venue and has received fifteen overall nominations for its various divisions including Arena of the Year, Talent Buyer of the Year and the Bill Graham Award.
“AEG and the Hard Rock Hotel celebrated an epic year in Las Vegas. We had a stellar opening line up, brought the first rock n’ roll residency to Las Vegas with Carlos Santana and we continue to set the mark for entertainment in Las Vegas with our second-to-none concert line up,” said Bobby Reynolds, Vice President of Booking of AEG Live Las Vegas. “We’re extremely proud of this venue and look forward to creating more magic in 2010.”

Guy Fieri and John Gremo at the House of Blues
Yes, believe it! Our very own Executive Chef John Gremo, Class of ’02, has been invited by Guy Fieri, Class of ’90, to be the opening act for his Roadshow at House of Blues on December 19. A couple UNLV students & UNLV Cheerleaders will help out Chef Gremo and it will be an eventful night! As Guy shared, he’ll be doing all the stuff they won’t let him do on TV!
Only a few short years ago, Guy competed and won the second season of The Next Food Network Star. Today this “Bad Boy” of Food Network hosts four popular shows and can barely walk down the street without being recognized. From his newest show, Guy off the Hook, where he gets up-close and personal with a live studio audience, to Guy’s Big Bite, where he teaches viewers how to make creative dishes with bold flavors and Ultimate Recipe Showdown, where he showcases home cooks’ best recipes, to traveling across America to find the most unique Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Guy brings his unique personality to Food Network several times a week.
This likeable laid back California “guy” with his trademark bleached blond spiky hair began his love affair with food at the age of ten, selling soft pretzels from a three-wheeled bicycle cart he built with his father named “The Awesome Pretzel.” Through selling pretzels and washing dishes, Guy earned enough money in six years to study abroad as an exchange student in Chantilly, France. While there, he gained a true appreciation not only for international cuisine, but the culture and lifestyle associated with it. Guy attended University of Nevada Las Vegas.
